Fluid Pixels: Reconstructing Gender Identity in the Realm of Cyberfeminism
English Abstract: Today, with the development of information and communication technologies (ICT), especially the formation of cyberspace, human relationships have taken on a different form. Interaction, communication, and information are carried out through the internet. Cyberspace, with its unique features, provides an ideal opportunity to establish cross-border communication networks and organize collective actions. It is also a powerful platform for redefining egalitarian discourse. Feminists have found this space suitable for challenging traditional epistemic, social, and gender limitations to open new horizons for redefining women's identity and feminism. They are referred to as cyberfeminists and consider technology a platform for liberation from traditional constraints and the creative reconstruction of gender. Thus, cyberfeminism focuses on patriarchal, hierarchical, and colonial foundations, as well as the gender inequalities women face in the real world. It seeks to present a gender identity that transcends traditional gender constraints and is manifested in the cyborg, which is the backbone of cyberfeminist discourse. The present study introduces the concept of "fluid pixels" as a metaphor for digital, changeable units and examines how gender identity is represented in cyberspace. The main goal of this research is to generate new theoretical knowledge, gain a deeper understanding of phenomena, and develop or critique conceptual frameworks. Thus, this research is theoretically and fundamentally oriented, examining the relationship between a new context (cyberspace) and gender identity. Although theoretical research primarily aims to "produce new knowledge" and "deeper understanding of phenomena" without focusing on immediate application, it can also have practical implications. The results of this research could provide a basis for understanding the challenges facing identity in contemporary society and for developing appropriate solutions. Given the nature of the subject, we will collect data using the library-documentary method and, in some cases, search social networks and virtual pages. The study begins with the theoretical roots and the expression of theorists' views in this field. It analyzes the inherent characteristics of cyberspace to demonstrate how gender identity has become a fluid, multifaceted process. The findings suggest that cyberspace has created an unparalleled opportunity to redefine gender identity and, consequently, women's liberation. In this regard, feminists are defending women's identities and rights and challenging patriarchy by theorizing in this area and presenting new ideas. Cyberfeminist activists aim to reshape social structures by creating a new gender identity and breaking down traditional ones. However, this approach faces challenges, limitations, and obstacles that pose a serious threat to the fluidity of gender identity in cyberspace. When addressing the concept of fluid identity within cyberfeminist discourse, it is important to avoid taking an entirely positive or negative stance. Instead, this phenomenon should be examined from the perspective of its functions, opportunities, and challenges within its conceptual and empirical context. The idea of identity liberation through cyberspace assumes equal access to the internet, information technology, and digital literacy for all. However, in reality, there is a significant digital divide based on social class, geographic location, race, and gender. Thus, the "cyber fluid identity" proposed by cyberfeminists could be a privilege for certain groups, rendering it not a universal solution to escape gender constraints. In summary, cyberspace can be a platform for self-expression and global networking, but its full acceptance requires more caution and thought.
