An Exploration of Parenting Stereotypes among Mothers Who Have Experienced Divorce under the Auspices of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee: A Qualitative Study
English Abstract: The objective of this study was to identify and ascertain the parental beliefs of mothers who have experienced divorce in Kermanshah city. The research was conducted qualitatively and with a phenomenological approach. To achieve this purpose, 10 mothers who had experienced divorce and were responsible for their children were selected through non-random targeted sampling. These mothers were also under the support of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee in Kermanshah city. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. Three primary themes were identified after the analysis and coding of the interview data. These themes include the mythical parent, mythical child, and the legend of hassle-free separation. Additionally, six sub-themes were identified, including compulsory communication, conditional communication, empowered parent, parental role requirements, social idealism, and child role requirements. Ultimately, the fulfillment of parental myths will result in widespread stress and tension among mothers, which can lead to specific psychological problems such as depression in parents, which in turn can lead to ineffective parenting. Additionally, parental myths will serve as a criterion for judging and evaluating other divorced parents, as well as a criterion for measuring the sense of adequacy and success of mothers with divorce experience.
