چکیده فارسی: مطالعه متون اسلامی، قرآن و احادیث پیامبر اکرم و ائمه اطهار و گفتوگوهای اصحاب و یاران آنها نشان می دهد همواره بحث از احکام و فلسفه آنها در میانشان رایج بوده است. یکی از احکامی که نیاز به روشنگری دارد و از دیرباز ذهن مردم را به خود مشغول کرده، عده و فلسفه آن می باشد که در این نوشتار سعی شده با توجه به متون تفسیری، حدیثی و فقهی، چیستی عده، اقسام و فلسفه آن تبیین شود.
در اصطلاح فقهی، «عده» عبارت است از مدت معینی که زن باید از ازدواج خوددارى کند. با توجه به نوع پیوند و گسست در امر ازدواج، عده اقسام مختلفی پیدا می کند که هرکدام نیز حکم جداگانه ای دارد.
اسلام، عده را وسیله ای برای صلح و بازگشت، فرصت مناسبی برای اندیشیدن، راهکاری برای حفظ نسل و احترام به ازدواج اول و حفظ حرمت خانواده معرفی می کند. با این وجود باید دانست علت هایى که برای احکام بیان می شود، علت تامه آنها نیست که علت غائى باشد، بلکه برخی از اسرار و حکمت های وضع احکام است.

The Concept of Waiting Period in Islam

English Abstract: A  study  of  Islamic  sources  such  as  the  Quran  and  traditions  of  the  Holy  Prophet  (S)  as  well  as  the  conversations  of  his  companions  and  their  friends  show  that  the  rationale  and  concept  of  divine  laws  had  always  been  an  important  concern.  One  of  the  issues  that  needs  to  be  explained  and  which  has  since  long  preoccupied  public  mind  is  the  concept  of  Iddah  (waiting  period).  In  this  study,  however,  efforts  have  been  made  to  elaborate  on  the  concept  of  Iddah  and  its  different  kinds,  albeit  with  reliance  on  exegetical,  jurisprudential  and  hadith  sources.  In  Islam,  Iddah  (period  of  waiting)  is  the  period  a  woman  must  observe  after  the  death  of  her  spouse  or  after  a  divorce  or  when  she  is  exempted  of  the  remaining  time,  during  which  she  may  not  marry  another  man.  Islam  considers  Iddah  as  a  means  for  reform  and  return  and  an  appropriate  opportunity  for  rethinking.  It  was  also  intended  to  ensure  that  the  male  parent  of  any  offspring  produced  after  the  cessation  of  a  marriage  contract  would  be  known.  However,  all  the  arguments  and  causes  related  to  the  mandatory  rules  are  not  the  perfect  causes;  rather  they  constitute  part  of  the  secrets  and  wisdom  of  the  rules  and  there  are  many  Islamic  laws  whose  entire  rationale  and  concept  remain  concealed  to  humans.
